ATD Charlotte is excited to partner with Goodwill Industries for our first volunteer project of 2017! We are proud to uphold Goodwill's mission of "Changing Lives Through the Power of Work!" by rolling up our sleeves and working in the garden at the new Goodwill Opportunity Campus in Charlotte.

What: Goodwill has asked for five or more volunteers to help assist with produce, weeding and garden management.

When: April 27th from 1pm-3pm.

Where: Goodwill Industries Opportunity Campus, 5301 Wilkinson Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28208

Attire:  Past volunteers are encouraged to wear their ATD Volunteer t-shirt. Additional t-shirts will be provided for new volunteers.

Additional Information:  The Urban Garden part of the Beyond Employment Skills Training (BEST) Program at Goodwill, which supports participants with disabilities in achieving their full potential through a range of activities including horticulture. Participants learn the basics about planting, maintaining, harvesting, preparing and eating the vegetables from the garden. Participants see garden projects through from start to finish, learning about their own talents and abilities.

The benefits of gardening can include: Stress reduction, building self-esteem, increased problem solving, developing of nurturing relationships, increased social interaction, responsibility, sensory stimulation, the lessening of pain as well as the ease of emotional pain. All of these benefits contribute to the participant’s work preparedness and overall well-being, putting them in the best position to find meaningful, family-sustaining employment. In addition, the Urban Garden provides in-season fruits and vegetables to the Community Table Bistro at the GOC.
