Adrienne Thomas President With 20 years of payroll and human resource management experience, Adrienne considers professional development her second career as she is always studying trends to elevate the knowledge and skills of herself and others. Training is more than her job; it's her passion. Her mission is to promote success through learning. Adrienne holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Marketing Management and Speech Communication. Her time outside of work is spent with friends, family, and her three children. |
Susan Byerly, CPTD Past President and Vice President of Professional Development Susan has supported various management and Learning & Development teams since 1995, working with programs, projects, and even delivering training to groups internationally. Susan currently supports the Learning & Development team at Brighthouse Financial in Charlotte and her passion is to be an excellent resource for her company, community, and chapter. She has many years of involvement on the Board of Directors, including a term as President in 2018. Susan is a Charlotte native and attended Appalachian State University. When she isn't working, you can find Susan rooting on the Carolina Panthers or playing in her yard with her husband Michael and her 2 lab-mix dogs. |
Keith Devoe Vice President of Finance Keith has worked in the Learning and Development industry since 1990. Initially employed as a facilitator and designer at Dreyfus Corporation, he designed and delivered courses covering proprietary and non-proprietary software applications. In 1996, Keith left Dreyfus and began working for Seligman Data Corporation, the service arm of JW Seligman Mutual Funds, as a lead trainer and designer on a small team of training personnel. Keith has been a member of ATD - Charlotte since 2006 and has served on the Board of Directors since 2007. |
Scott Chatelain Director Scott has built a career of helping organizations engage their employees, navigate change, and helping people find the jobs and organizations that ignite their passion. With experience in talent development, leadership development, and human resources development in a variety of industries, Scott currently works at W.L Gore in their Enterprise Transformation Office as Associate Experience Change Manager. Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Scott has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from WVU and a Master's of Organization Development from Johns Hopkins University. Scott currently lives in Charlotte with his wife Mary Beth and three children. In his free time, you will find Scott mountain biking, hiking, and running trails. |
Lara McKinnon Director Lara has been a professional trainer, facilitator, and instructional designer since 1994. Her career began with the American Red Cross, where she provided HIV/AIDS education. She moved into technology training upon receiving advice from a friend and, while the products have changed over the years, Lara has a natural talent to make the complicated understandable. Lara is currently employed at MetLife as a Senior Sales Instructional Designer. |
Tony Devine Vice President of Membership Tony enjoyed working, learning, and leading in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry with over 25 years of leadership in Senior Management, Sales, Marketing, NASCAR, and Training roles for Kimberly-Clark (K-C). In order to be the best, and successfully compete among Proctor & Gamble and Georgia-Pacific, K-C invested heavily in its people with ongoing formal training and leadership development to consistently upskill and instill a growth-activated mindset. This passion for a well-trained and winning culture led Tony to purchase VisionCor, a Training and Development Corporation, to help organizations and people navigate problem-solving, create opportunities, and manage constant change in the marketplace. Tony’s joy comes from his Christ-centered faith, a wonderfully blessed family, and the enjoyment of the great outdoors with its endless activities. |
Catrina Murray Vice President of Membership Catrina is a versatile training and development professional with expertise in successfully managing training projects, facilitation, and instructional design for complex technical and professional development topics. Her degree in Human Resources Management from Florida State University and a variety of work experiences led her to this fulfilling career. In addition to ATD, Catrina volunteers with Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, ensuring college students have opportunities for professional development. She resides in Charlotte, NC with her husband Kevin, a filmmaker, and their cats Dartanyan and Banshee. |
Pete Lafferty Vice President of Technology Pete has spent over 20 years in higher education administration where he mentors students in leadership development, group dynamics, personal and professional development and assists with orientation, technical training, and student retention. Pete joined ATD in October 2019 and has enjoyed his experience and the learning and networking provided by ATD. Pete earned a masters in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State, an MBA from La Salle University, and an HR graduate certificate from La Salle University. In his spare time, Pete enjoys keeping up with current events, reading, volunteering and enjoying time with his wife Holly and their dog Vivian. |
Cherie Hicks Vice President of Marketing Cherie has experience in many aspects of the Learning and Development field such as facilitation, course design, leadership development and program management. Prior to joining Trane Technologies, she worked as a Learning Strategist for Chicago Bridge and Iron, Inc. and as a Learning and Development Specialist at Atrium Health. Cherie has a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Charlotte, NC and a Master of Science in Adult Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC. She lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband, Bryen and daughter, Brynlie. |

Sylvia Yarborough Co-Vice President of Workshop Programs Sylvia Yarborough is a training and development professional with over 20 years of experience in building training and development programs in the public and private sectors. Her mission is to help others achieve the lives they want to live through sustainable careers. She currently manages the Advanced Information Technology training program for Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont. After ten years as an ATD member and committee member, Sylvia joins us as the Co-chair of Programs for the ATD Charlotte chapter. |
Natalia Muller Vice President of Communications With 20 years learning and development and performance consulting experience coupled with her passion to positively impact others, Natalia is ready to “talk shop” anytime! She has accumulated vast experience from numerous roles with companies in multiple countries. Natalia considers herself a lifelong learner: she has her graduate degree in Instructional and Performance Technology from Boise State University, holds both CPTD and PHR professional certifications and has been published in the national T&D magazine. Natalia supports the learning function as a Senior Business Execution Consultant in Wells Fargo. She enjoys leading strategic initiatives, developing learning, executing and evaluating programs to enable people to do their best. She spends her personal time with family and friends, spoiling her Siberian cat, reading, gardening and travelling. |

Amy Horne Administrator Amy has been the Administrator for ATD Charlotte since August 2001. In her role, she supports both the board and chapter members. She is responsible for the bookkeeping/finances, managing the membership, providing general communication for all members and serves as liaison between ATD National & the local chapter. Amy works as an Executive Administrator for BrightSpring Health Services. She is a Charlotte native, is married and has two adult children, and is very involved in her church and community mission projects. |
