ATD - Charlotte Board of Directors

Keith Devoe

President

Keith has worked in the Learning and Development industry since 1990. Initially employed as a facilitator and designer at Dreyfus Corporation, he designed and delivered courses covering proprietary and non-proprietary software applications. In 1996, Keith left Dreyfus and began working for Seligman Data Corporation, the service arm of JW Seligman Mutual Funds, as a lead trainer and designer on a small team of training personnel. Keith has been a member of ATD - Charlotte since 2006 and has served on the Board of Directors since 2007.

Susan Byerly, CPTD

President-Elect and Vice President of Professional Development

Susan has supported various management and Learning & Development teams since 1995, working with programs, projects, and even delivering training to groups internationally. Susan currently supports the Learning & Development team at Brighthouse Financial in Charlotte and her passion is to be an excellent resource for her company, community, and chapter. She has many years of involvement on the Board of Directors, including a term as President in 2018. Susan is a Charlotte native and attended Appalachian State University. When she isn't working, you can find Susan rooting on the Carolina Panthers or playing in her yard with her husband Michael and her 2 lab-mix dogs.

President Damika Marshall

Damika Marshall

Past President

Damika has over 20 years of experience in Learning and Development, having served as a Leadership Development Trainer, Technical Trainer, and Instruction Designer. She currently serves as a Project Manager and Scrum Master for a local bank. Damika earned her Bachelor's Degree in English from Johnson C. Smith University, her Masters in Organizational Change and Leadership Development from Pfeiffer University as well as a Master's in Christian Education from Pfeiffer University.

Scott Chatelain

Director

Scott has built a career of helping organizations engage their employees, navigate change, and helping people find the jobs and organizations that ignite their passion. With experience in talent development, leadership development, and human resources development in a variety of industries, Scott currently works for Lee Hecht Harrison as SVP Director of Professional Services. There, he manages a team of career transition consultants spread throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Scott has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from WVU and a Master's of Organization Development from Johns Hopkins University. Scott currently lives in Charlotte with his wife Mary Beth and three children. In his free time, you will find Scott mountain biking, hiking, and running trails.

Lara McKinnon

Director

Lara has been a professional trainer, facilitator, and instructional designer since 1994. Her career began with the American Red Cross, where she provided HIV/AIDS education. She moved into technology training upon receiving advice from a friend and, while the products have changed over the years, Lara has a natural talent to make the complicated understandable. Lara is currently employed at MetLife as a Senior Sales Instructional Designer.

Tracy Smith, PHR

Vice President of Membership

Tracy has several years of experience in human resource management and training & development following her tenure in education. With a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Tracy currently works at Sherpa as the HR & Learning Manager. There, she wears many hats: human resource management, instructional design, coaching, leadership development, and performance management. Her background includes design and facilitation experience in a variety of soft skills, management, and sales trainings as well as strategic planning for learning & development teams.

Adrienne Thomas

Vice President of Programming

With 20 years of payroll and human resource management experience, Adrienne considers professional development her second career as she is always studying trends to elevate the knowledge and skills of herself and others. Training is more than her job; it's her passion. Her mission is to promote success through learning. Adrienne holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Marketing Management and Speech Communication. Her time outside of work is spent with friends, family, and her three children.

Pete Lafferty

Vice President of Technology

Pete has spent over 20 years in higher education administration where he mentors students in leadership development, group dynamics, personal and professional development and assists with orientation, technical training, and student retention.

Pete joined ATD in October 2019 and has enjoyed his experience and the learning and networking provided by ATD.

Pete earned a masters in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State, an MBA from La Salle University, and an HR graduate certificate from La Salle University.

In his spare time, Pete enjoys keeping up with current events, reading, volunteering and enjoying time with his wife Holly and their dog Vivian.

Cathy Cloud, SPHR SHRM-SCP

Vice President of Finance

With her ATD - Charlotte experience beginning in the early 1980's, Cathy returns to the Board of Directors for a second term as Vice President of Finance. She is committed to helping the chapter maintain a great record of fiscal excellence, stability, and accountability. Cathy holds a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management and a Master's Degree in Management and Leadership. With professional experience in higher education, radio and broadcasting, and family wellness, Cathy currently works at the Bethlehem Center of Charlotte. A Charlotte native, Cathy and her husband enjoy life with her church, family, children, and grandchildren.  Cathy currently works at the Alliance Center for Education.

Cherie Hicks

Vice President of Marketing

Cherie has experience in many aspects of the Learning and Development field such as facilitation, course design, leadership development and program management. Prior to joining Trane Technologies, she worked as a Learning Strategist for Chicago Bridge and Iron, Inc. and as a Learning and Development Specialist at Atrium Health.

Cherie has a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Charlotte, NC and a Master of Science in Adult Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC. She lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband, Bryen and daughter, Brynlie.

Denise Sutter

Co-Vice President of Workshop Programs

Denise Sutter is a seasoned coach and facilitator specializing in innovative and dynamic leadership development experiences. To cultivate her passion for developing people, Denise earned her Master's in Adult Learning from Virginia Tech. This became the springboard to her professional learning and development career.

Denise has led Learning and Development teams in Technology, Coaching, and Leadership Development. Her portfolio focuses on living her purpose with workshops on Coaching, Purpose, and Vision. Denise also facilitates group brainstorming and dialogue using Design Thinking and The World Cafe techniques.

Kelly Smith

Co-Vice President of Workshop Programs

Kelly has provided training and development opportunities for coworkers and external clients throughout her careers in forensic science, K12 and higher education. Kelly is currently a Senior Research Analyst with Central Piedmont Community College, where she collaborates with the Parr Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence to develop data literacy training for faculty and staff. She earned a doctorate in Adult and Community College Education from North Carolina State University and a graduate certificate in Gender, Leadership, and Public Policy from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Kelly has been an active member of ATD Charlotte since 2016.

Lisa Cudmore

Vice President of Communications

Prior to moving to the United States from England in 2004, Lisa spent her career in the Banking industry in the United Kingdom, in a variety of business change, training and implementation roles. She earned her U.S. Citizenship in 2016.

Lisa is an enthusiastic, adopter and innovator who likes to organize and get things done. She is devoted to talent development – ‘it is all about the people, creating a sense of belonging where their opinions, contributions and ideas are valued.’ Lisa works relentlessly to understand and apply the key concepts of lean methodologies to her current Operational Excellence L&D role at Trane Technologies. Her core skillsets of facilitating and mentoring come naturally and she loves to broaden her network of contacts.

James Davidson

Vice President of Technology

James is an instructional designer at Charter Communications working with a diverse team of forward-thinking professionals. He specializes in designing graphics that supplement e-Learnings, videos, and other deliverables. James earned an AA from Central Piedmont Community College at age thirty-two before completing undergraduate studies as a double major in English (creative writing) and Philosophy (Philosophy and Religion), as well as a minor in Business Administration, at Winthrop University. He continued his studies, earning an MA in English from Winthrop in 2018 with more than 20 credit hours from the College of Education. James's creative writing has appeared in Poetry Quarterly, Gravel Magazine, and The Bookends Review with a story forthcoming in Brilliant Flash Fiction in March 2021. He and his wife have two sons who enjoy playing soccer.

Amy Horne

Administrator

Amy has been the Administrator for ATD - Charlotte since 2001. In her role, she supports both the board and chapter members. She is responsible for tracking membership and communications, bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, serve as liaison between ATD - Charlotte and the International Organization, and support the planning and execution of meetings. Amy also serves as both Operations Resource Specialist for LHC Group Home Health and Hospice as well as Administrator for the company's Hospice Foundation. Amy is a Charlotte native, is married and has two children, and remains very involved in her church and in community mission projects.
