Chapter President   Edward Tonini
 

Edward has served on the ATD Charlotte Board since 2012, and is an ATD Accredited Master Trainer.  For more than 20 years, he has been an extraordinary educator.  Edward was born and raised in Canada.  He earned an education degree in 1994, and his teaching career brought him to North Carolina in 2000.

From 2004-2015, he was the Director of Education at a non-profit financial counseling and education organization. Edward is an Accredited Financial Counselor and Certified Financial Coach. He has authored numerous financial education publications and produced several courses in financial literacy for consumers and professional counselors and educators.  He now has his own practice at 247FinancialHealth.org.

Edward is also an accomplished composer and musician with more than 25 years of experience in music ministry. His music is available at InspirationalProductions.org.

   
President Elect Susan Byerly

Susan has over 17 years experience supporting Citigroup and OneMain Fiancial via management and Training and Development teams. She has worked with Leadership Programs and Projects along with delivering Training to many groups throughout the United States and abroad.Susan is a Sales Training Consultant for MetLife and part of the Income and Protection Solutions Group. Her passion is to be an excellent resource for New Hire Training.

Susan has been a member of the Charlotte ASTD Board for 2 years as the VP of Marketing building relationships within the local community. Working with groups to spread the word about our Chapter and creating connections in the industry are one way she helps the Chapter. Susan is a native of Charlotte and attended Appalachian State University. When not working, you can find her playing in her yard with her husband Michael and 2 lab-mix dogs or rooting on the Carolina Panthers.

   
Past President Crystalle Ramey
 

Crystalle Ramey is President and CBA (Chief Bulb Architect) of “The Bulb Effect.” The Bulb Effect focuses on building ‘aha!’ moments that enable you or your company to GROW, SHINE and SUCCEED. These ‘aha! Moments’ can come in a variety of shapes and sizes; from scalable learning solutions (Web-based, instructor-led, virtual), to informal Video-Based Learning (VBL) and mobile.

She has over 20+ years of Corporate Learning & Development experience for companies such as MasterCard International, JPMorgan Chase, Time Warner Cable Business Class and most recently at Kelly Services. Her roots in adult learning began as a Marksmanship Instructor in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Gulf War and the Somalia Relief Effort. Her experience is complimented by her education; having achieved an AS in International Business at Westchester Community College, a BS in Organizational Development at Manhattanville College and most recently a M.Ed. in Instructional Systems Technology at UNC Charlotte. In her spare time, she refines her craft as an amateur comedian. Additionally, she has served 2 years as the Association for Talent Development (ATD) Charlotte Chapter’s VP of Programming, President Elect in 2015 and is currently honored to serve as the President in 2016.

Director Dan Black
 

Dan is Director of Client Engagement at Tortal where he provides strategic consulting on learning development practices to organizations so they can better leverage the power of their people. Dan's career spans work with Price Waterhouse and Bank of America, where he built the first Web Enabled Skill Gap Analysis for the entire Bank Technology and Operations division. He developed training for his own Real Estate Franchise that was later adopted by and delivered internationally throughout the Franchise. Dan's unique background of business, technology, and training development uniquely positions to assist his clients.

He is a Mentor at Packard Place a technology start-up incubator and active participant in the effort to connect Advanced Manufacturing with Secondary Education in the Carolinas.

   
Director Keith Devoe
 

Since 1990, Keith has been working in the Learning and Development industry. Initially, he worked as facilitator and designer at Dreyfus Corporation where he designed and delivered courses covering proprietary and non-propriety software applications.After leaving Dreyfus in 1996, Keith worked for a short while at Seligman Data Corporation, the service arm of JW Seligman Mutual Funds as a lead trainer/designer on a small team of training personnel.

A co-worker who was looking for a new job shared a listing with Keith in 1997 and said that he would be a perfect fit for the opportunity, and Keith followed up on the lead and has been employed with TIAA-CREF since then, mostly as an Instructional Designer of online training solutions. Keith has been a member of ASTD’s Charlotte Chapter since 2006 and has been volunteering on the Board since 2007.

   
Director Lara McKinnon
 

Lara has been a professional trainer, facilitator and instructional designer since 1994. She started her career with the American Red Cross teaching HIV/AIDS education. She moved into technology training upon the advice of a friend who said, “if you can talk to teenagers about sex you can teach adults to point and click.”While the products have changed over the years, the focus has always been on end user training, as Lara has a unique ability to make the complicated understandable. One of the best compliments she ever received from a student was “you mean you aren’t an accountant?”

Lara is currently employed at MetLife as a Senior Sales Instructional Designer.

   
VP of Finance Shirell Burris
 

She is a Program Manager at Duke Energy and serves on the ASTD Board as the current VP of Finance. Shirell has more than 25 years of experience in financial services serving in many roles in retail banking, human resources, finance, and insurance. Experience includes budgeting and financial analysis for Human Resources, training instructor, instructional systems design & development, performance consulting, insurance customer service and finance team manager. In the past she has also served as treasurer for the South Charlotte Chapter of Jack and Jill of America for 2 years and 4 years as treasurer for a local Charlotte City-Council-At-Large member.

In her “spare” time, Shirell loves to volunteer in the community, travel, watch football (Go Panthers!), and most importantly, spend time with her family and friends.

   
 VP of Professional Dev. Dr. Meg Gibson











For more than 25 years, Meg Gibson has been a developer of people and organizations. Focusing on the core issues of personal behavior and individual values- character, communication, empowerment, vision, values, establishing goals, and personal accountability - she provides a comprehensive and personalized coaching and consulting experience for individuals and work groups.

Dr. Meg has been helping people achieve their goals for over 20 years; working extensively with individuals and organizations. During her career, she has presented several training sessions and workshops about leadership development, program development, cultural diversity and sensitivity, women’s issues, motivation, self-esteem and empowerment.

She also has an extensive background working with young people, adults, and organizations, providing assistance in the areas of conflict analysis and mediation, organizational behavior, team building, personal development and personal relationships.

Dr. Meg seeks to inspire people who face challenges in their life; by partnering with them, she provides encouragement and support by creating a space of honesty and truth. It is through this space that people gain greater access to their individual power, make better life decisions and begin to understand the truth within them. She truly believes in helping others achieve the life of their dreams!

Dr. Meg has a strong belief that people are whole and capable, with their own unique set of strengths. She chooses to focus on the belief that every one of us has a Spirit of Courage – but not all of us recognize it because of limiting beliefs. Rather than focusing on deficits, she adopts a personal growth model, which focuses instead on potential and possibility.

   
VP of Technology Shawn Barnes
 

Shawn is a professional instructional designer, trainer and learning leader with over a decade of progressive experience. She has combined her love of training and technology by creating innovative learning solutions in the technology, banking, health care and insurance fields.

Shawn has earned a BA in English from NC State University, a MS in Organizational Change and Leadership from Pfeiffer University as well as Technical Communication and Paralegal certificates from Duke University and Meredith College, respectively.

 


   
VP of Communications Matthew Cole
 

Matthew is an ISD/ Developer Specialist at Tortal and is currently apprenticing as a Junior Project Manager, where he helps to develop new training solutions to maximize the effects of training and training needs for Tortal clients. He uses his degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Florida International University and over ten years of training and development experience to assess, organize, develop, and expand training towards specific client training objectives.

As an active board member since 2013 for the ASTD Charlotte Chapter, Matthew furthers his educational experience through workshops, classes, and peer-to-peer learning along with facilitating the local T&D community.

Matthew was born and raised in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area of Florida and moved to Charlotte shortly after graduating from college.

   
VP of Membership Damika Marshall
 

Damika has over 17 years of experience in Learning and Development serving as a leadership development trainer, technical trainer, and instructional designer. In addition to her day job, Damika serves as the Program Director and Facilitator for a nonprofit entitled Women In Organizing.

Damika has earned her BA in English from Johnson C. Smith University, a MS in Organizational Change and Leadership Development from Pfeiffer University as well as a MS in Christian Education from Pfeiffer University.

She is currently the Leadership Development Manager at AXA.

   
VP of Operations Scott Chatelain
 

Scott Chatelain has a career of helping organizations engage their employees and navigate change -- and helping people find the jobs and organizations that ignite their passion.

With a foundation of talent development and design, Scott has worked in a variety of industries including: telecom, banking, biotherapeutics, and consumer appliances. He has worked with popular global brands including: Electrolux, Wachovia, Sprint, and France Telecom.

Scott Chatelain is the founder and Principal Consultant of Talent Key Consulting working with companies such as North Highland Consulting and Lee Hecht Harrison to serve their clients.

Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Scott currently resides in Charlotte with his wife Mary Beth and three children. In his time off he loves to mountain bike, hike, and run trails.

   
VP of Programming Kelly Lynn Irons
  Kelly Irons is the Founder/Owner of developUs, a Charlotte based Leadership Development and Team-Building organization that helps leaders be better leaders and teams be better teams. With 20 years of training design and delivery experience, 10+ years in leadership development roles, and a Master’s Degree in Adult Education, Kelly has a long history of impacting those in the learning and development field, and audiences from a multitude of backgrounds and industries. Today, her roots in human development have remained a core to her business practice, and she operates under a guiding philosophy that in order to impact a group, you have to impact the individuals that make up the group. From this foundation, her work in coaching, mentoring and leadership emerged.   



 

VP of Marketing

Adria Myers
 

Adria Myers brings over fifteen years of healthcare, revenue cycle, call centers, and training to her role as the VP of Marketing. Adria made a career out of personal and professional development when she switched gears and dove into the world of training where she works in instructional design and delivery.

Adria is passionate and enthusiastic about learning, people, projects, planning, and anything else she can get her hands on! It is within her most recent role that her marketing skills emerged, as she has been tasked with marketing new internal programs, monthly newsletters, community outreach projects, ideas, and initiatives to her organization. Adria is currently studying for her BS in Business Administration and has various certifications in the learning and development arena. Adria is one of the board’s newest members – joining the Charlotte chapter as a member in 2016 and joining the board in 2016 as well.

   
Administrator Amy Horne

Amy has been the Administrator for the Charlotte Chapter since 2001. In her role, she supports both the board and chapter members. Amy’s responsibilities include membership tracking and communications, bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, liaison between the Charlotte Chapter and National, monthly meeting and other event support, etc.

Amy is an Operations Resource Specialist with LHC Group Home Health and Hospice, where she supports over 80 locations and managers nationwide. She also is the administrator for the company’s Hospice Foundation where she assists with daily grant requests for less fortunate hospice patients and their families with non-hospice related needs.

Amy is a Charlotte native. She is married and has two children. She is very involved in her church and mission projects in the local area.
