Scott Chatelain, Chapter President

Scott Chatelain has a career of helping organizations engage their employees and navigate change -- and helping people find the jobs and organizations that ignite their passion. With a foundation of talent development and Leadership Development, Scott has worked across a broad-spectrum of Human Resources Development disciplines in a variety of industries including: telecom, banking, biotherapeutics, and consumer appliances.Scott currently works for Lee Hecht Harrison as SVP Director of Professional Services where he manages a team of career transitions consultants across 9 offices in the Mid-Atlantic that connect people to jobs through innovative career transition services providing guidance in career planning and job search techniques. Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Scott has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from WVU, and Masters of Organization development from Johns Hopkins University. He currently resides in Charlotte with his wife Mary Beth and three children. In his time off he loves to mountain bike, hike, and run trails.     


Damika Marshall, President Elect

Damika has over 20 years of experience in Learning and Development serving as a Leadership Development Trainer, Technical Trainer, and Instructional Designer. She currently serves as a Project Manager and Scrum Master for a local bank.Damika earned her Bachelor's Degree in English from Johnson C. Smith University, her Masters in Organizational Change and Leadership Development from Pfeiffer University as well as a Master’s in Christian Education from Pfeiffer University.


Susan Byerly, Past President

Susan has over 17 years’ experience supporting Citigroup and OneMain Financial via management and Training and Development teams. She has worked with Leadership Programs and Projects along with delivering Training to many groups throughout the United States and abroad. Susan is a Sales Training Consultant for MetLife and part of the Income and Protection Solutions Group. Her passion is to be an excellent resource for New Hire Training.

Susan has been a member of the Charlotte ATD Board for 2 years as the VP of Marketing building relationships within the local community. Working with groups to spread the word about our Chapter and creating connections in the industry are one way she helps the Chapter. Susan is a native of Charlotte and attended Appalachian State University. When not working, you can find her playing in her yard with her husband Michael and 2 lab-mix dogs or rooting on the Carolina Panthers.


Keith Devoe, Director

Since 1990, Keith has been working in the Learning and Development industry. Initially, he worked as facilitator and designer at Dreyfus Corporation where he designed and delivered courses covering proprietary and non-proprietary software applications. After leaving Dreyfus in 1996, Keith worked for a short while at Seligman Data Corporation, the service arm of JW Seligman Mutual Funds as a lead trainer/designer on a small team of training personnel. Keith has been a member of ATD’s Charlotte Chapter since 2006 and has been volunteering on the Board since 2007.


Lara McKinnon, Director

Lara has been a professional trainer, facilitator and instructional designer since 1994. She started her career with the American Red Cross teaching HIV/AIDS education. She moved into technology training upon the advice of a friend who said, “if you can talk to teenagers about sex you can teach adults to point and click. “While the products have changed over the years, the focus has always been on end user training, as Lara has a unique ability to make the complicated understandable. One of the best compliments she ever received from a student was “you mean you aren’t an accountant?” Lara is currently employed at MetLife as a Senior Sales Instructional Designer.


Tracy Chandonnet, VP Membership

Tracy Chandonnet has been in the HR and Training and Development field for several years following her tenure in education. She has a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and has a blended background in Learning & Development and Human Resources. She currently works at Sherpa as HR & Learning Manager In her role at Sherpa, Tracy wears many hats including all aspects of HR, instructional design, coaching, leadership development, and performance management. Her background includes design and facilitation experience in a variety of soft skills, management, and sales trainings as well as overall learning and development strategic planning


Tanya Wells, VP Communication

Tanya Wells is a first time Board member for the Charlotte chapter with over 20 years of experience in Learning and Development across the Telecommunications, Healthcare, and Utility Industries. She has worked as a Technical Trainer (travelling both domestically and internationally), Instructional Designer, Professional Services Consultant, and Training Developer in her most recent role. This breadth of experience includes Fujitsu Telecommunications, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC, as well as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies. Her most recent role has been with Duke Energy.

Tanya has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from University of Central Florida along as various certifications in the Learning and Development arena. Fairly new to the Charlotte area, Tanya enjoys rooting on the Panthers, reading, exercising, adventure activities, and playing with her cats.


Dr. Shantell Strickland-Davis, VP Programming

As an experienced leader in instructional design initiatives, Dr. Shantell Strickland-Davis currently serves as the Director of Learning Innovation & Instructional Design at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC.  A current holder of the Certified Professional in Learning Performance designation (CPLP), Shantell has a passion for designing and developing high quality programming that encourages engagement and motivation.  Her roles in higher education include eLearning course design, professional development, and teaching for student success. Shantell has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a master’s degree in Instructional Design from Appalachian State University and a Ph.D. in Education from Old Dominion University.


Erika Moree, VP Technology

Erika is a Learning Solutions Designer with over 10 years of experience in instructional design, performance management and advanced facilitation. She is passionate about servicing the development needs if today’s modern learner through journey mapping, technology and well-designed critical experience opportunities. She has her degree in Technical and Industry Training from the University of Central Florida and has served in banking and insurance functions.  She currently services as AVP, Training Design for Synchrony Financial, a premier consumer financial services company. When not working, she spends her time with her husband and 2 children.


Melanie Falu, VP Operations

Melanie is a first-time board member with over 20 years of experience in learning & development within the legal environment.  As a former IT Support Specialist for JP Morgan Chase, Melanie discovered she had a passion for training users, hence her embarking on a transitional career move to the world of learning & development formerly known as training. Currently, Melanie is an IT Administrator for Hunton Andrews & Kurth. Armored with her CPLP, she has morphed this role from traditional technical support to one that involves coaching user behaviors for improved performance by applying learning theories, change management practices, and metrics for continued sustainability. Melanie is a native New Yorker with a Master’s Degree in Technology Management from NYU.  This past August she celebrated her 12th year in Charlotte. While she still has a New Yawk accent, she now considers herself a Southern Yankee who still speaks New York, but loves some sweet tea and biscuits.  In her spare time, Melanie loves to read, listen to music, and is an avid Games of Thrones fan; Team Daenerys, Mother of Dragons!


Cathy Cloud, VP Finance

Cathy Cloud is a first time board member of ATD and was a past member of Charlotte ASTD chapter in the early 80’s. Cathy rejoined ATD in 2018 and later accepted the role of VP of Finance. She is committed to helping the chapter continue a great record of fiscal excellence, stability and accountability. Cathy holds an undergraduate degree in Organizational Management and a graduate degree in Management and Leadership. For more than 30 years, she has contributed to dynamic growth and change in Charlotte based in a Human Resources capacity. She is a member of the local chapter of CASHRM and the National Society for Human Resources Management. She maintains the designations of SPHR and SHRM-SCP. In addition, she has served as a visiting instructor of management and supervisory skills at Carolina School of Broadcasting and Gaston College. After nearly 20 years in the broadcast industry, Ms. Cloud joined Thompson Child & Family Focus in 2005. A Charlotte native, Cathy and her husband enjoy life with church family, children and grandchildren.


Adria Myers, VP Marketing

Adria Myers brings over fifteen years of healthcare, revenue cycle, call centers, and training to her role as the VP of Marketing. Adria made a career out of personal and professional development when she switched gears and dove into the world of Learning and Development ten years ago and currently works as an Instructional Designer with Tortal Training. Adria is passionate and enthusiastic about learning, people, projects, planning, and anything else she can get her hands on! It is within her most recent role that her marketing skills emerged, as she has been tasked with marketing new internal programs, monthly newsletters, community outreach projects, ideas, and initiatives to her organization. Adria is currently studying for her BS in Business Administration and has various certifications in the learning and development arena. Adria is one of the board’s newest members – joining the Charlotte chapter as a member in 2016 and joining the board in 2016 as well.


Adrienne Thomas, VP Professional Development

Adrienne brings 20 years of payroll and human resources experience to her role as VP of Professional Development. Professional development could be considered her second career as she is always studying current trends to improve herself and others to improve the craft. Adrienne is a Training Analyst for The Compass Group. She designs and facilitates learning for the Payroll Team.

Training is more than her job. It's her passion. It fulfills her to help individuals maximize their potential. When she realized she could bring her love of creative expression and training together, she discovered her calling as a trainer and instructional designer. Adrienne enjoys using her techie skills, marketing and communication, and facilitation experience to present and design learning that improves the customer experience. Her mission is to promote success through learning. She believes she is not successful unless her partners are successful.

Adrienne holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Marketing Management and Speech Communication. Her time outside of work is spent with friends, family and with her three children.


Dylan McKenzie, AVP Marketing

Dylan is the Assistant Vice President of Marketing for ATD – Charlotte, working closely with the Vice President of Marketing to maintain chapter social media accounts, announce upcoming programs, organize events which give back to the local community, manage the member rewards program, secure meeting sponsors, and build partnerships with other professional organizations. Dylan is also the Director of Member Development for Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity’s National Headquarters, where he provides resources, as well as training and development opportunities, to undergraduate members and alumni. He is a 2016 graduate of Kansas State University, where he studied Human Resource Management and Leadership Studies. When he isn’t working with ATD – Charlotte or Pi Kappa Phi, you will find Dylan reading a good book or writing short stories.


Amy Horne, Administrator

Amy has been the Administrator for the Charlotte Chapter since 2001. In her role, she supports both the board and chapter members. Amy’s responsibilities include membership tracking and communications, bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, liaison between the Charlotte Chapter and National, monthly meeting and other event support, etc. Amy is an Operations Resource Specialist with LHC Group Home Health and Hospice, where she supports over 80 locations and managers nationwide. She also is the administrator for the company’s Hospice Foundation where she assists with daily grant requests for less fortunate hospice patients and their families with non-hospice related needs. Amy is a Charlotte native. She is married and has two children. She is very involved in her church and mission projects in the local area.
